Wk 14 - Colouring Crazy challenge with Graph'it...shadow effects

Hey everyone welcome to another Colour Challenge!
We hope you managed to catch this week's Create and Craft show, it was another whirlwind hour with not enough time to show you everything I had planned but more and more people are joining the Graph'it bandwagon which is fantastic news that the word is spreading about these great markers.
Don't forget if you have questions or need some help, ideas for colour combos and hints and tips to join us on our Facebook group HERE
where the team are always around to help you if you need it.

We are excited to announce that we have just found out we have another
Graph'It show on Create and Craft on
Wednesday 9th April at 4pm
where I will hopefully be showing you some great ideas and all the awesome samples from the team for inspiration! Create and Craft is on Sky 671 and Freeview 36 or you can watch online at www.createandcraft.tv or on TVCatchup.

I have a little tip for you this week which you might find useful...in fact, I've decided that each week I'm going to try and give you a little tip to using your Graph'Its which I find really useful, and hopefully you might too along the way.
So, my Nikky's Tip 1 this week is....
....if you find that you get a slight 'patchy' effect or a 'mottling' when you colour (this can happen with all the brands, not just Graph'It) it generally means that you're overworking the area and flooding a darker colour with a lighter one too much. As GI's are slightly more opaque than some of the other alcohol markers they actually MOVE the inks out of the way which helps to blend more easily, but because of that if you place a light colour into a darker one you can displace it and that can result in this effect if you overdo it. The key to avoiding this is to really make sure you have the right colour combo before you start. Don't forget that although the number system is sequential, the colours are currently more or less in PAIRS or THREES, so if you're having trouble blending, it's usually because you're missing a colour out somewhere. I see this issue quite frequently when I look at people's colouring in blogland and wherever it might be, and usually it occurs more with skintones, I think generally because we tend to concentrate so much on the skin we can overwork it slightly. I always used to find I had this issue when I used Copics too and it was generally for the same reason, I wasn't using the perfect colour combo and ended up trying too hard.
Obviously as the GI colour range is expanded more and more this will also help. It can actually be a bonus sometimes if you make a mistake - I personally find it so much easier to correct a colour error with Graph'Its than I ever have with any other brand which is something I found out this week when I was colouring a dark skintone which turned into a nightmare. I was determined I'd fix it and it took a while but I did, I was so impressed!
So - I hope this little tip has helped if you find you keep getting this or were wondering how to get around it and why it happens.  Anyway, enough babbling from me!

Let's get to this week's challenge...
Shadow Effects
Shadows can be one of the most useful effects no matter what you're colouring so I challenged the team to come up with the goods and boy, did they!

Don't forget you can use ANY brand of alcohol marker to enter the challenge, just please follow our rules which are in the sidebar ---->
You have until Fri 18th April at noon GMT to enter this one and the winner will be announced on 25th April. Our random winner will receive some fabulous Graph'It Goodies!

We don't have a winner to announce this week as we are a fortnightly challenge now but we'll be announcing the Winners from Week 11 next week so make sure you join us for the results and more inspiration for this challenge too.

Let's see what the Design team made...

Claire  I've used an image from the Polkadoodles CD 'Pretty Tuff', masked him to create the wall effect with a mask from Dutch Doobadoo and a little distress ink. I used my Graph'Its to add colour the bricks as well as colouring the focal image. My shadow effect was created using the tube from an old biro to blow at the brush end of my Graph'Its, it creates a really fun effect...
Colours used: Hair: 3190, 3250, 3245 and 1210
Skin 4180, 4155, 4115 and 4120
Reds: 5280, 5245,5220,5210
Jeans: 7125, 9104, 9102, 9100

Nikky...I love using shadows so I often have a play around at how I can change them and add more depth. I love this little Ballerina which you can get here and I wanted to make her sit against a wall while she tied her ballet pumps...
This photo isn't the best here as it looks really intense and is much more subtle in real life, but I created a double shadow to give the illusion of more depth and 2 light sources. I broke the shadow up a bit by adding tiny white dots with the Graph'It shake white marker.
I used:
Hair 1210, 1230, 1250, 3110, 3125, 3150
Skin: 4110, 4115, 4155, 4170, 3110, 4145, 4135
Dress: 4145, 4135
Shadows/background: 9400, 9402, 9405, 9406, 4110, blender

Susan - .I have used papers ,image and sentiment from Work and Play1, this is an amazing collection and is available on CD and as Digi download ,and as always I have used my amazing Graph'it markers
